Athens-Clarke County’s keys to success

Using DVIR to streamline back office workflows

In order to be more efficient, Athens-Clarke County was looking for a way to eliminate their old paper-based process for DVIRs and Documents. Before they went paperless, their back office admin would spend 3 hours per week scanning and filing more than 12,400 paper documents. Now, drivers can complete all forms within the Samsara Driver App, allowing the department to save time and reduce errors.

More efficient routes keep costs low for the community

The longer a route takes to complete, the more time and money it costs the County. That’s why the Solid Waste Department put a big focus on improving routing efficiency and making sure drivers could execute their routes in less time, all while being safe. Thanks to their improvements, the department was able to increase fuel efficiency by 58% and decrease fuel usage by 19%, allowing costs to stay low for their customers.

Using gamification to improve driver safety

In order to provide top-tier service for their community, Athens-Clarke County recognizes the importance of operating a safe fleet. Despite holding monthly safety meetings, the Solid Waste Department lacked critical driver safety data on speeding or harsh events, making coaching conversations more difficult. With insight into driver behavior from Samsara, Jones and his team can now track driver safety metrics and use Driver Safety Scores to benchmark progress. Each month, drivers with a perfect score are entered into a drawing for a gift card. Since they implemented driver scorecards and coaching tools with Samsara, Athens-Clarke County has seen a 50% reduction in harsh driving events.
