Meet TEAMS Transport

Legacy systems weren’t keeping up with growth

Headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, TEAMS Transport has built their reputation on personalized service, a well-maintained fleet, and a deep commitment to safety. With over 300 drivers and 550 trailers hauling dry and deck freight across Canada and the U.S., the mid-sized carrier has grown into one of North America’s most trusted shipping fleets.

But in recent years, as operations expanded, managing growth became increasingly complex. Legacy systems left TEAMS Transport responding to inaccurate location data and taking a reactive approach to driver training—creating gaps in visibility and efficiency. To stay ahead, TEAMS Transport needed a connected platform that could unify safety, maintenance, and dispatch to deliver the real-time insights their teams rely on to keep operations running smoothly.

A unified, driver-friendly platform built to scale

To better manage their expanding operations, TEAMS Transport partnered with Samsara to bring safety, maintenance, and dispatch together on a single platform. What immediately stood out was how easily the system fit into their existing workflows and how quickly the team adapted. “Samsara was incredibly easy to implement—from installation to training, everything was so simple,” said Robert Cousins, Safety Manager. “If you can use a cell phone, you can use Samsara. That ease of use was a big reason we chose it.”

TEAMS Transport leadership took a proactive approach, emphasizing trust and transparency as they introduced dual-facing cameras. While there was some initial hesitation, they eased concerns through in-office demos and open conversations, highlighting that the technology is there to protect drivers, not monitor them. “There’s always going to be a bit of pushback,” said Cousins. “But once drivers saw the footage was there to protect them, they quickly got on board.”

Preventing breakdowns and saving $389K in repairs

With over 550 trailers in rotation, TEAMS Transport gained new levels of efficiency by equipping its fleet with Samsara’s Asset Gateways (AGs) and using photo-enabled DVIRs to catch maintenance issues early. Increased visibility allowed their team to prioritize in-yard repairs, avoid costly roadside breakdowns, and improve asset uptime—resulting in $285,000 in trailer maintenance savings and $104,000 in tire-related savings. By resolving issues in the yard, TEAMS Transport saves up to 70% per repair compared to over-the-road breakdown costs.

Recovering every asset—and saving over $19K

After losing 28 pallet jacks—costing a total of $19,600—TEAMS Transport rolled out Samsara Asset Tags to stop the cycle of misplaced equipment. Small, discreet, and ruggedized, Asset Tags provide real-time visibility into the location of smaller yet critical assets like pallet jacks. As a result, TEAMS Transport has recovered 100% of missing equipment, eliminating costly replacements. “We were constantly losing pallet jacks,” said Cousins. “With Asset Tags, we always know where they are. If one gets left behind at a customer site, we just reroute a driver to go pick it up. It saves us money every single time.”

Samsara Platform

Integrating operations and earning insurer confidence

By fully leveraging Samsara’s open platform and API, TEAMS Transport has streamlined dispatch operations while providing insurers with full visibility into safety, compliance, and maintenance practices. In a recent audit, having all operational data centralized and easily accessible allowed auditors to quickly verify performance and expedite the process. “We scored so well, they actually cut the audit short,” said Brown. “Samsara gave us that advantage.”
