The Challenge

Disconnected systems limited visibility and slowed response times

Vermani Trucking is a specialized flatbed carrier based in Ontario, hauling heavy metals and machinery across Canada and the United States. Transporting steel, aluminum, and automotive components—often at gross weights of up to 90,000 pounds—requires precise execution, strong safety controls, and constant visibility.

Before Samsara, the company relied on a system that split compliance and video across two separate portals. As a result, reviewing camera footage required staff to fully exit the Hours of Service (HOS) system, complicating workflows and slowing routine reviews at a time when reliable visibility was critical to protecting vehicles and high-value freight. Hardware reliability complicated matters further. “The biggest issue we had with Omnitracs was camera connectivity,” said Nitin Vermani, Operations Manager. “Even when the camera looked connected, we couldn’t always retrieve footage when we needed it. That defeated the whole purpose.”

Together, these system and hardware limitations left gaps in real-time visibility and asset awareness. Administrative teams spent hours pulling reports from different tools, while dispatchers relied on phone calls to locate drivers and provide customer updates, reducing efficiency and making it harder to quickly respond to potential theft, loss, or unexpected disruptions.

The Solution

One platform for end-to-end fleet management

Vermani Trucking turned to Samsara to bring its operations together on a single, connected platform. By deploying Vehicle Gateways, Dual-Facing AI Dash Cams, Asset Gateways, and Asset Tags, the fleet gained consistent connectivity and real-time visibility across vehicles, trailers, and drivers.

Instead of switching between systems, teams now access safety footage, compliance data, and asset locations from one centralized dashboard. Automated alerts now deliver critical video footage instantly, helping safety managers respond faster and with greater confidence.

To further improve day-to-day operations, the company equipped every vehicle with a dedicated in-cab tablet for the Samsara Driver App. Drivers now use a consistent tool for Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and communication, while dispatchers connect with the cab through in-app messaging rather than time-consuming phone calls.

Equipment Tracking

Recovering $400,000 in stolen assets in under one hour

Just two weeks after deploying the Samsara Asset Tag, Vermani Trucking faced the kind of incident every fleet dreads—and achieved the outcome every fleet hopes for. When two brand-new trucks were stolen, the team recovered both vehicles within 30–40 minutes, saving approximately $400,000 in assets, not including the value of potential cargo.
