The Challenge
Unreliable data left drivers and assets exposed in remote conditions
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Whitewater Management LP specializes in water transfer, dewatering, and fluid management for energy, mining, and construction clients across Western Canada. With additional locations in Innisfail, AB; Grande Prairie, AB; Sudbury, ON; and Fort St. John, BC, the company operates one of the largest fleets in the water management sector. Their drivers travel long stretches of highway and remote resource roads in extreme weather and challenging terrain, making safety a critical priority.
Previously, the company relied on a different platform, but the system wasn't providing the level of accuracy or reliability they needed. Inconsistent data, such as incorrect speed limits and driver scores that didn't reflect real-world behaviour, made it difficult for managers to confidently assess performance or reinforce safe driving habits. Over time, this limited visibility created additional manual work for teams working to reconcile data and manage operations.
"We didn't get actionable data from their system," said Dale Morrison, HSE Manager. "There was no trust in the system, and we couldn't do anything with the data." Leadership recognized the need for a technology partner that could deliver accurate visibility and support a proactive approach to safety.
“Without Samsara, we'd be in a worse place. I couldn't picture us without it.”

The Solution
A unified platform for real-time visibility
To regain trust and operational control, Whitewater Management LP deployed Vehicle Gateways, Dual-Facing AI Dash Cams, and Asset Gateways across their powered and unpowered equipment. Bringing fleet tracking, video-based safety, and asset visibility into one platform gave the team a more consistent and timely view of their operations.
"Switching to Samsara was a real step up," said Morrison. "Both in accuracy and in what we could actually follow up on, without having to spend thousands of hours fixing data and updating spreadsheets." While the company is already seeing significant return on investment, they continue to deepen their use of the platform, with plans to support a company-wide initiative focused on reducing idling and fuel efficiency.

Fleet Telematics
Reducing crashes by 73% and recovering $100K in stolen assets
Using Samsara Vehicle Gateways for real-time GPS tracking and crash detection, Whitewater Management LP reduced their crash rate from an average of 7.5 per year to 2—a 73% reduction. This equates to avoiding five to six incidents annually and saving approximately $44,000 per year, a figure management notes is understated when factoring in reduced downtime and lower insurance premiums. Real-time tracking also helped the team recover a stolen $100,000 truck within an hour.
