The Challenge
The race to go green
As Europe's transportation sector faces increasingly stringent emissions regulations and expanding zero-emission zones, Fraikin recognised that traditional fleet management approaches were no longer up to the task. With 60,000 vehicles serving 11,000 customers across 10 European countries, the company needed a comprehensive digital strategy aligned with DRIVE28 – Fraikin’s value-creation plan – to scale decarbonisation while protecting operational excellence across markets.
The challenge extended beyond just moving to electric vehicles. Fraikin needed to provide customers with accurate, real-world data to make informed decisions about vehicle selection, battery sizing, and charging infrastructure – all while maintaining operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
"I made the choice that I wanted one supplier, the market leader, and the best platform which is Samsara. This way we could build it together."

The Solution
A single platform to support EV transition, proactive maintenance, and sustainability reporting
Fraikin’s solution centred on integrating Samsara Vehicle Gateways with their NeXa® platform, creating a unified digital ecosystem for sustainable fleet management. This integration enables real-time monitoring of fuel consumption, driver behaviour, vehicle health, and EV-specific metrics like battery state and charging patterns – all accessible through one central platform.
The implementation involves retrofitting 10,000 existing vehicles with Samsara technology, ensuring that both current fleets and new acquisitions benefit from advanced telematics capabilities. “Samsara is an important partner in our mission to lead sustainable fleet management,” said Yves Pétin, CEO of Fraikin Group. “With real-time data to optimise fleet operations and reduce environmental impact, it’s a key step for ensuring we deliver premium, customer-focused solutions while supporting the transition to zero-emission fleets.”
Through the platform, Fraikin can analyse route characteristics, load weights, temperature conditions, and power requirements to provide precise recommendations for fleet electrification. “If we want to make decarbonisation happen, customers need the best first experience. With insights from Samsara, we can ensure they get exactly the right vehicle for their specific needs,” said Edward Breedveld, Chief Digital Officer at Fraikin.
Fraikin’s Fraikin Lab takes this further, using Samsara data to test and validate new electric and alternative fuel vehicles. Rather than relying on manufacturer specifications, which can overstate capabilities, Fraikin provides customers with reliable, real-world performance data. Monthly testing sessions with Samsara engineers ensure accurate documentation of vehicle characteristics, from actual range to charging performance.
The telematics data also underpins Fraikin’s approach to maintenance. Fault code detection enables proactive intervention – when a potential issue arises, workshop teams receive automated alerts before breakdowns occur. In the UK, 32 mobile technicians equipped with Samsara-enabled vans can diagnose and resolve issues on-site, significantly reducing vehicle downtime and keeping customers’ operations running smoothly.
Samsara data is also integrated directly into NeXa® to give customers transparent access to their fleet’s environmental performance, including detailed reporting on fuel consumption, emissions, and efficiency metrics. This visibility allows customers to identify improvement opportunities and track progress towards their own sustainability targets. As part of this, Fraikin is developing eMSP (e-Mobility Service Provider) services that will offer complete charging management – including real-time monitoring of charging infrastructure, optimised schedules based on vehicle usage patterns, and detailed cost analysis.
“We can now give customers access to far better advice,” said Breedveld. “Better advice means more informed decisions, and that makes all the difference for driving decarbonisation together.”
The Result
Samsara helps Fraikin lead the industry’s shift to sustainable fleet operations
Fraikin is scaling adoption through a phased rollout, with continuous improvements based on operational feedback. The objective is to deliver measurable value for customers through higher uptime, better utilisation, and improved transparency – with the company targeting 40% low-emission vehicles by 2035.
“Samsara’s technology is a cornerstone of Fraikin’s sustainability initiatives,” said Breedveld. “We continuously analyse the data to identify trends, optimise operations, and drive further reductions in fuel consumption, emissions, and overall environmental impact.”
As zero-emission zones expand across European cities and decarbonisation pressures intensify, Fraikin’s data-driven approach provides a blueprint for sustainable fleet transformation. By combining Samsara with industry expertise and customer-centric innovation, the company isn’t just adapting to change – it’s leading it.
"Samsara has redefined our approach to fleet sustainability. We're not just telling customers they should decarbonise – we're showing them exactly how to do it with real data from their actual operations.”
