The Challenge
Rising insurance pressure and a legacy system that couldn’t produce evidence
Front Runner Logistics is a family-run haulier specialising in air freight. Working from their base near Heathrow Airport, the company’s ethical logistics operations run 24/7 across a fleet of more than 121 vehicles. Their Good Distribution Practice-certified (GDP) processes get almost 1.25 million kilograms of pharmaceuticals per year to patients at controlled temperatures. Their Aircraft on Ground (AOG) division races critical aircraft parts onto the next available flight, with rigorous security vetting to ensure all goods are suitable for air transport.
But amidst all this work to promote safety across the supply chain, the company realised its own safety setup had fallen behind. As the firm grew post-pandemic, its legacy telematics and camera systems’ inadequacies were feeding through into a higher rate of accidents. Their insurer sent a risk advisor to audit Front Runner, challenging them to demonstrate how they were meeting industry safety standards.
After taking an honest look at their safety program, they found their existing cameras couldn't keep pace — footage was only accessible while engines were running, and the system was vulnerable to tampering. Without reliable evidence on the realities of the road, effective safety training was impossible. Standing at a critical juncture, the team chose a new path.
As a younger person telling experienced drivers they might be doing something wrong, you need belief in the cause, and real backing from management. Samsara gave us the facts to have those conversations properly.

The Solution
One platform for safety, compliance, and operational visibility
Leadership rolled out the Samsara platform fleet-wide between January and March 2025, consolidating safety, compliance, and trailer telematics in one place.
AI Dash Cams replaced the old, tamper-prone hardware. Managers tracked drivers’ endorsements in real time with smart licence checking tools. New tracking equipment helped the team protect goods in transit from temperature changes. But most importantly, the team used technology to build a safety culture that made safer habits instinctive.
A year later, rear-end collisions had decreased by 71%, with a matching fall in driver endorsements. In the meantime, data-driven fuel efficiency training allowed Front Runner to prevent 300 idling hours.
AI Dashcams
Rewiring the safety culture with cameras as a co-pilot
With Samsara AI Dash Cams, Front Runner reduced rear-end collisions by 71% and cut total claims by 23%, while the average cost per claim fell by £2,492. These safety gains came even as total mileage increased by 11%, thanks to the team’s efforts to turn safer behaviours into a reflex for drivers, rather than a tickbox exercise.
Better behaviours are now so ingrained that drivers now receive 71% fewer endorsements on their licences per year - even in their own vehicles.

Trailer Tracking
Keeping life-saving medicines at the right temperature
Front Runner’s pharmaceutical shipments must be kept in strictly controlled conditions, with a record for every second of transit. A momentary slip in temperatures can write off a whole shipment, leaving patients without medicine and Front Runner open to huge liabilities.
Front Runner’s old system turned temperature tracking into a manual headache that chewed up time and jeopardised their revenue model. An enquiry from a supplier or end customer could take five days to answer, putting crucial customer relationships in jeopardy. But since Front Runner deployed Samsara Trailer Tracking, they can generate accurate temperature reports in no more than 15 minutes.

Fleet Telematics
Saving hundreds of litres of wasted fuel
Processing air freight involves a lot of waiting around, often for up to five hours at a time. In hot or cold weather, drivers are prone to idling their engines to keep the in-cab climate control running. Front Runner knew this was costing them huge amounts of money in wasted fuel every time they looked at their budget. But they had no way of proving it. General directives met with denials, leaving leadership’s efforts to change behaviour at an impasse.
That all changed when the team started using Samsara fleet telematics to monitor each individual engine. Management can now use coaching sessions to present drivers with concrete evidence of their fuel use. Once the penny dropped, idling fell by almost 300 hours year over year, saving close to 200 litres of fuel since installation.

The Road Ahead with Samsara
Controlling costs while keeping a tight grip on safety
Front Runner is clear-eyed about their immediate challenges. As external costs rise, Aaron and his team are looking to hold the line on safety while protecting their margins. They plan to get there by using Samsara to create a virtuous cycle of cost control, where lower overheads follow on from improved safety standards and better visibility into fuel use.
Aaron is proud of the work he and his team have done to use technology to effect a cultural change. His advice to any operator still tolerating systems that no longer do the job is blunt: stop putting up with tools that fail you, and find ones that work.
"If you're finding cracks in your system and they're not working for you, why are you putting up with it? Go out and get a system that works and works for you; the results speak for themselves."
