Across the UK and Europe, small assets—from power tools and generators to inspection kits and plant attachments—are critical to keeping operations running. Yet leaders are struggling to maintain visibility of these vital assets. Recent reporting from The Guardian highlights how organised crime is increasingly targeting UK construction sites, with tool and equipment theft estimated to cost businesses nearly £100 million annually—particularly during seasonal shutdowns and quieter periods.

At the same time, the UK construction equipment market is showing renewed momentum in 2025. According to the Construction Equipment Association (CEA), sales of construction and earthmoving equipment rose 7.4% year-on-year in January 2025, marking several consecutive months of stabilising growth. As organisations continue investing in equipment, ensuring those assets are visible, properly utilised, and protected becomes even more critical—not only to prevent loss, but to reduce downtime, avoid unnecessary replacement purchases, and improve capital efficiency.

To help organisations solve these challenges even faster and more effectively, Samsara is introducing our latest innovations in asset tracking, the next-generation Asset Tag and Asset Tag XS. The updated Asset Tag offers an enhanced six-year battery life, a 50% increase over the previous generation, while Asset Tag XS—our most compact tag yet—can bring visibility to your smallest high-value assets.

In addition, Asset Tag now offers even more powerful Bluetooth connectivity, delivering up to 10x better yard accuracy than previous generations, as well as AI-powered intelligence to track and recover assets faster and more easily. At the same time, Samsara has integrated Hubble’s Terrestrial Network, comprising 90 million consumer smartphones, to provide an even more comprehensive view of asset location.

Industrial-grade tags built for the toughest conditions

Samsara’s new Asset Tags are designed to help you track and recover assets using industrial-strength Bluetooth technology. Both models provide discreet protection for high-value assets:

  • Asset Tag: The size of a fun-size chocolate bar (about 2.5 inches long and an inch wide), Asset Tag can be used for a wide range of equipment—such as concrete saws, pumps, generators, methane detectors, arc welders, and bins—and offers a robust six-year battery life.

  • Asset Tag XS: For smaller or specialised assets—including press kits, rebar scanners, core drills and utility locators—Asset Tag XS is the size of a bite-size chocolate bar (about one inch by one inch) and offers a substantial three-year battery life along with flexible mounting options for tight spaces.

Proactive end-to-end protection against theft and loss powered by AI

Samsara Asset Tag goes beyond simple location tracking to provide a comprehensive, AI-powered end-to-end theft and loss protection workflow designed to help you detect, investigate, and recover missing equipment faster. Now, teams can track every action, from the moment an item goes missing to its successful recovery, in one place.

The workflow allows organisations to:

  • Proactively identify at-risk equipment: With the new Left Behind Incident feature, managers are immediately notified when an asset is separated from its vehicle outside a trusted geofence. Rather than discovering the loss days or weeks later, customers can respond in real time to recover assets and prevent costly disruptions.

  • Investigate with rich context: In the new workflow, customers can see critical context such as, who last had the asset, which vehicle it was last seen with, photos of the surrounding area from StreetSense, and more, and then mark an asset as missing. This rich context helps determine the most efficient recovery method and allocates the resources needed for a successful retrieval.

  • Rapidly recover assets and avoid lost time: With the new workflow, customers can coordinate quick asset recovery by dispatching a driver or sharing asset live location with local authorities. Once dispatched, crews can quickly pinpoint an asset's exact location using Compass Mode. Powered by ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, the experience provides real-time distance and directional guidance that provides up to 10x the yard accuracy of previous generations, helping pinpoint an asset’s exact location with an on-screen arrow leading them straight to the asset.

  • Demonstrate return on investment: The new Asset Tag Overview page analyses asset photos with AI to calculate the value of assets protected and recovered. By tracking the total dollar value of assets, managers can demonstrate financial impact on the business.

A 100% recovery rate in the field with Asset Tag

Lanes Group, a leading wastewater utility solutions provider based in the UK, previously found it difficult to maintain visibility over their equipment, with assets worth thousands of pounds occasionally going missing for weeks. To solve this, they implemented Asset Tags—alongside the Samsara Connected Workflows digitisation solution—to help monitor and protect their specialised equipment.

"By integrating Samsara Asset Tags, we’ve gained real-time visibility over £7.2 million worth of specialist equipment. What used to take weeks to locate is now found in minutes, allowing us to prevent theft and loss to the tune of £60,000 annually,” said Amber Kirkby, Product Owner of Samsara at Lanes Group. “It has transformed our operational efficiency by ensuring our teams always have the right tools exactly when they need them."

Expanding the industry’s largest, strongest network with Hubble

The unmatched visibility of Asset Tag is powered by the Samsara Network, the industry's leading industrial-grade Bluetooth network. Over the past two years, the density of our Network has doubled and now consists of millions of Samsara-connected devices. By using industrial-grade Bluetooth to continuously "listen" for signals, a single Asset Tag can be detected in real time.

Today, we’re announcing an integration with Hubble’s Terrestrial Network to add 90 million consumer smartphones to the Samsara Network. These additional connection points build on Samsara’s presence on roads, at job sites, and in residential areas by extending visibility into buildings.
