Rising fuel costs and shrinking margins are putting significant pressure on businesses to lower costs and increase efficiency. Today, we're introducing two new innovations to help your team do just that and more. Our new releases centralise trailer management so you can track your full fleet and reduce or bill for detention and help waste management customers save time by automating common, manual processes.

1. Confirm collections and flag overfilled bins with Waste Intelligence

During waste collection, proving what happened at the customer site typically takes manual work. A missed-collection claim often means someone scrubs hours of footage, or the fleet sends a courtesy re-collection. Catching an overfilled bin depends on a driver stopping to take a photo and file a report—something drivers rarely have time to do—which can result in significant missed revenue. Those steps can also break down as routes grow.

Waste Intelligence collects time-stamped video evidence at each customer stop using Dash Cameras and AI Multicam, providing customer service representatives with instant access to information from each service address.  Here's what it can do:

  • Confirm the collection without a footage hunt. Service verification gives customer service a time-stamped, AI-checked record that the stop was serviced, so a missed-collection claim can be closed without sending the vehicle back out.

  • Flag overfills you can defend. On front loaders, overfill detection marks containers past the service limit and attaches searchable, time-stamped media, so teams can enforce the limit and bill the overage when the charge is disputed.

Customers are already seeing benefits from Waste Intelligence. Jim McGroerty, Operations Manager as Waste Masters Solutions, said, "Samsara's Overfill Detection has identified a potential 23% revenue lift on the routes where we've deployed it compared to our existing solution." The company has also been able to cut the time to resolve service disputes from about two hours to under a minute and has identified a 5 to 10% surcharge opportunity for additional services.

2. Bring your entire trailer fleet into Samsara and automate detention workflows with Smart Trailers

Trailers sitting, out of service, or detained translate to lost revenue. Today, many teams still spend hours on yard hunts, stitch trailer data across vendors, and find out too late that a unit is stuck at a customer site.

Samsara Smart Trailers helps you see the fleet, act on what matters, and automate the follow-up so more trailers are on the road delivering. This month, we're announcing a command centre for the fleet you already track, a way to bring third-party trailers into that view, and automation to recover detained units. Here’s what they can help you do:

  • Get a full fleet command centre. Large fleets often already track some trailers with another provider, and those units can be spread across geographies for months. Now you can bring third-party trailer data into Samsara to optimise your full fleet alongside the rest of your operations. Create virtual trailers and push location readings into the same dashboards, reports, and alerts as Samsara-tracked units. You can get visibility across your trailer fleet quickly and install Samsara devices on your own refresh cycle. You can then use Trailer Fleet Overview as a command centre to see the status of your fleet and AI-driven insights on what most needs your attention.

  • Recover detained trailers without the chase. Detention Automation sits on top of detention reporting. See which saved locations have trailers sitting past your grace period, whether that location is a customer, a vendor, or one of your own distribution centres. Set grace periods and billing rates by location, then run recurring outreach so the other party can mark units ready for collection or out of service. The status updates in Samsara, so you send a driver when the trailer is actually available, and you have the record you need if you bill for the extra time.

See the trailer fleet you already track, bring in the rest, and get detained units back on the road quickly.
