We are excited to announce the addition of Preventive Maintenance to the Samsara fleet solution. Designed in collaboration with our customers’ maintenance departments and fleet managers, Preventive Maintenance makes it easy to ensure that each vehicle is optimally serviced, reducing costs, and avoiding breakdowns.

Now, Samsara can be the system of record for vehicle maintenance. With Samsara’s complete visibility of vehicle utilization and engine status, fleet managers can manage maintenance schedules more intelligently with less manual recordkeeping.

Preventive Maintenance schedules are triggered on preconfigured mileage and time-based intervals. Since the Samsara Cloud automatically tracks the usage of every vehicle, mechanics and service managers can see exactly when each vehicle requires service.

This makes it easy to perform usage-based servicing without having to manually read and record odometers. Mechanics can spend more time working on vehicles, and less time maintaining records.

Usage-based service schedules mean that lightly-utilized vehicles don’t incur the expense of premature maintenance, while heavily-utilized vehicles don’t go too long before servicing. Industry analysts have determined that typical fleets save $1700-$2600 per year on lightly-utilized vehicles (source: Fleet Central).

Here’s how to get started with Preventive Maintenance:

In the Fleet dashboard, open the Maintenance tab. Here you can schedule, check, and maintain all your vehicle maintenance records.

Schedule Maintenance Events

Schedule is where you create planned maintenance tasks. Simply record the task, such as "Oil Change", pick the interval (mileage or days) between maintenance, and select all the vehicles which should follow the scheduled task.

Track Upcoming Maintenance

Under Upcoming you'll see all the maintenance items you've scheduled, assigned to each vehicle.

This is what your mechanic reads every day. When your mechanic finishes vehicle maintenance, they mark Resolve and add details, which is now logged as a new vehicle maintenance log.

You can Snooze a task to push it out to a future mileage or date, or click Ignore if it’s deemed to be unnecessary.

All vehicle maintenance items are searchable- simply use the search bar to search vehicles, e.g. "Ford F350", or maintenance items, e.g. "oil change".

When your mechanic completes a task and marks it as "resolved" it's saved to the Log. Mechanics can also log unscheduled maintenance tasks here, providing a complete service record of the vehicle.

Review Vehicle Status

You can find the status of all your vehicles in the Status tab. Here is where you track oil levels, battery voltages, and vehicle faults codes. If something goes wrong, you'll see it here.

When Unexpected Faults Arise

Enable Engine Fault Alerts to receive real-time notifications when fault occur. A log of previous faults can be found in the Alerts page, and currently active faults are shown in the maintenance tab, so drivers don’t need to be relied on to report check-engine lights.

Samsara decodes faults into human-readable descriptions, so you can see which faults require immediate attention, and which can wait until the next scheduled servicing.

Preventive Maintenance is available now to all Samsara fleet customers, with no additional cost and no new software to download. If you aren’t yet using Samsara, contact us for a Free Trial{:target="_blank”} to see Preventive Maintenance along with the complete Samsara fleet solution.
