Real-world impact drives new career goals for Samsara sales leader

It’s fair to say that I didn’t follow the usual route into sales. I left school early to join a football academy and to follow my dream of becoming a professional player. But when that was kicked into touch, I moved through a succession of jobs in marketing, recruitment, currency brokering, and sales in search of something that mattered to me—but nothing felt right. That was, until I joined Samsara. 

Samsara recognises potential

I started as an Account Executive (AE) working in the mid-market, covering fleets of between 21 and 175 vehicles. Since then, I’ve worked my way through a number of roles, including team lead in mid-market before moving into enterprise sales and working with our biggest customers. Today, I’m leading nine people as part of a UK and Ireland mid-market team. 

Each step of my career at Samsara has given me new challenges, new perspectives, and a real sense of how far you can go here if you’ve got the right attitude and mindset. Friends of mine have been in serious accidents. Knowing our technology can prevent crashes, protect drivers, and get people home safely gives me a real sense of pride in what I do. What’s more, you get to see the benefits every day. 

For instance, I worked with Grundon Waste Management, the UK's largest private waste company. They turned to us because they wanted a solution that would provide actionable data to help them create a bespoke driver safety strategy. 

Thanks to our Connected Operations Platform, they’ve realised an 87% reduction in seatbelt infringements, a 95% cut in mobile phone use, a 93% drop in tailgating, and a 30% increase in driver scores. 

They saw a massive improvement on all their key metrics, which has helped them to proactively manage and focus their driver coaching. This is what I mean by real-world impact. 

Real-world impact

Let me give you another example. CLEAN Linen & Workwear delivers linens and uniforms to hotels and businesses across the UK. We’ve helped them completely turn around their approach to safety across the business. 

But we’ve also helped them improve their eco-driving, which in turn has helped to minimise fuel costs. We’ve also done a lot to help improve compliance across their fleet, while driver coaching has helped cut repairs and maintenance expenditure by 10%, extending vehicle lifespans while reducing downtime.

While another fleet I worked with recently faced rising insurance rates. By running a proof of concept with Samsara’s safety tools, they discovered that their “best” drivers—people they’d rewarded for years—were in fact among their riskiest. Phone use, smoking, and seatbelt misuse were invisible before, but with Samsara they could finally coach their drivers effectively and reduce risk.

These aren’t abstract wins—sales for the sake of sales. Behind every single one are tangible improvements that make a difference for businesses, drivers, and the communities they serve. That real-world impact is a huge part of why I’ve stayed so long at Samsara.
