At Samsara, we build technology that powers the global economy. We help the world of physical operations move goods and people, maintain infrastructure, and respond to emergencies. And it is this real-world impact of technology—to make operations the safest, most efficient, and most sustainable way possible–that attracted me to Samsara.

I joined the business in early 2025 as VP of Product for the Telematics business unit. After nearly a decade at ride-hailing platform Uber, I was looking for a new kind of challenge, one where digital product decisions translate into tangible, operational outcomes. That’s exactly what I found at Samsara.

Unlike other tech firms, our work isn’t about optimising for clicks or pushing abstract metrics. It’s about helping improve performance, reduce emissions, and cut costs. Even more importantly, it’s about avoiding accidents and doing everything we can to make sure people get home safely. That kind of impact is rare. And it’s what makes this work meaningful.

What we’re building

In the Telematics team, we’re focused on solving practical problems across vehicle performance, driver behaviour, and operational insight. Whether it’s surfacing fuel savings, preventing fraud, or making it easier to coach drivers, our goal is to deliver value that our customers can see and act on.

This means helping them not only access data but also understand what it means and, perhaps more importantly, what to do with it. That means creating a platform that automatically guides them towards better outcomes both at pace and scale.

Fuel as a system, not a stat

One specific area we’re working on is fuel. After all, fuel touches every part of a fleet’s operation in terms of cost, efficiency, emissions, and compliance. But the way we present that data today doesn’t always make its value obvious.

That’s why we’re rethinking the entire fuel journey, from how customers acquire fuel to how it’s used. We’re also looking at how fraud is detected and prevented. And we’re looking at tying driver behaviour to real outcomes so that the data doesn’t just show that drivers have improved their driving score, but that their improvement saved a business £100k this year.

In other words, customers should be able to trace the direct impact of their operational decisions from their data. That’s the bar we’re setting. Why? Because better usability leads to better decisions and better outcomes.

Designing for complexity without compromise

After all, Samsara serves a wide range of industries. We also work across multiple geographies and business sizes. That creates what I think of as a “3D matrix” of use cases, each with unique needs in every cell.

The challenge is to design tools that work across that complexity without becoming generic. So not only are we looking to create more impactful insights, we're also creating a platform that is flexible enough to serve different sectors without diluting the power of our product.

A feedback loop grounded in reality

And we can only do that by working with our customers to ensure we create the tools and insights they need. Our feedback loop is grounded in the field, not just in theory. We see how our tools are used, hear first-hand what’s confusing, and learn what needs to change.

That proximity to real-world operations shapes everything, from how we prioritise features to how we measure success. It keeps us honest and focused.

What makes it meaningful

And that’s important because one of the biggest differences I’ve seen at Samsara compared to other tech companies is the alignment between what we build and the value it creates. Every time we help a driver avoid a crash or show a fleet how to save money, it reinforces why this work matters. When our product works, everyone wins: our customers, their teams, the environment, and us.

Join us and build the technology powering the world’s most critical operations.

At Samsara, we build products that truly matter. Our customers work on the frontlines—moving goods, maintaining infrastructure, and keeping communities safe—and their technology needs to keep up.

If you’re an engineer who thrives on solving tough problems, collaborating directly with customers, and delivering impactful products at speed, join the team.
