Samsara’s new extensibility toolkit: SDKs, connectors, and serverless functions

As a product team, we recognized that for application developers, data engineers and system integrators, the "last mile" of integration has historically been the hardest. It often involved brittle connections, heavy maintenance, and scarce documentation.

Samsara accelerates this velocity, measuring success by verifiable adoption. We digitized more than 300 million workflows over the past year. Our platform maximizes team efficiency by leveraging an ecosystem of 350+ integrations to streamline core operational tools. This extensibility is the strategic differentiator: Our platform is engineered for agility, delivering new operational value in weeks, not months. We are now building upon this foundation, launching the latest platform advancements—including the new SDK, Connectors, and Functions—to provide developers and data engineers with the practical features required to accelerate operational value.

• Unified operational data access: A comprehensive set of REST APIs covering Telematics, Safety, Compliance, Maintenance, and Workflows. These APIs power our 350+ certified integration ecosystem, allowing partners and customers to extend the platform and ensuring all developers have access to unified, organized operational data.

• Real-time, event-driven data flow: Time-sensitive data delivered through high-volume Kafka streams and event-driven Webhooks enabling reliable, custom workflow integration.

• Code reliability and maintainability: Official code libraries and versioned, technical documentation that lowers maintenance cost and mitigates the security risk associated with brittle, in-house API integrations.

Samsara SDKs: Toolkits for efficiency and speed

The official, open-source Samsara SDKs have reached General Availability (GA), providing a natively supported, fully versioned, and documented path to interact with the Samsara APIs.

• For developers: The SDK abstracts API complexity by managing retries, pagination, async operations, and concurrency. Based on internal benchmarks using our HOS violation report, this removes up to  70% of boilerplate code, resulting in more reliable integrations and significantly lower debugging time.

• For IT leaders: The versioned, open-source (MIT licensed) SDK ensures API consistency, security, and auditability, mitigating risk and ensuring the reliability of custom code assets.

Kafka Connector: Real-time streaming made simple

The Samsara Kafka Connector (GA) provides a fully supported, secure, and flexible path for real-time data streaming. With OAuth 2.0, multi-cloud event delivery and configurable schemas, this release enables modern workflows without the need for custom middleware.

• For developers: Stream Samsara data into Kafka, Pub/Sub, or Event Hubs without writing integration code. Native OAuth 2.0 and configurable schemas make it simple to build real-time, event-driven workflows directly in your existing stack.

• For IT and data leaders: Adopt a secure, supported connector that delivers reliable, continuous data streaming across cloud environments. Enterprise authentication and configurable schemas reduce long-term maintenance effort and create more consistent, predictable data flows.

Data Connectors (Tableau and Power BI): Streamline data access and reporting

The launch of the native integration with Tableau (OData) (GA) and the Power BI Connector (GA) significantly simplifies data access and integration. Both connectors provide secure, self-service access to consistent Samsara operational datasets—including telematics, safety, and workflow data. With these connectors, organizations can:

• Build real-time dashboards for fleet utilization, safety trends, and operational efficiency

• Combine Samsara insights with financial, HR, or ERP data for holistic business reporting

• Empower analysts with governed, analytics-ready datasets in their preferred BI tool

• Standardize KPIs and reporting across teams and business units

Also, custom reports will be available in all of our Connectors; enabling self-service analytics without taxing IT resources.

Functions: Build custom business logic directly on the platform

Samsara Functions enables developers and partners to securely run custom Python code directly within the Samsara Connected Operations Cloud. Samsara Functions allow you to build and deploy complex, custom logic on top of the Samsara system without needing to build and maintain dedicated infrastructure. 

Functions is currently in Open Beta. Early adopters have already executed Functions over 2 million times across 400+ unique scenarios. You can now build, schedule, and trigger Samsara Functions directly from the dashboard.
