In October 2018, Hurricane Michael made landfall in Florida as a high-end Category 4 hurricane, taking out the utility and communication infrastructure in the Florida Panhandle.

Uniti Fiber, a fiber network provider, immediately sent a team to Panama City, Florida, to restore communications for emergency and police dispatch—services vital to post-hurricane rescue and recovery missions.
