The Challenge
Reactive data and limited visibility made it challenging to manage safety and performance across a large fleet
Action Resources is a specialized transportation company hauling chemicals and hazardous waste across the U.S. and Canada, operating 400+ tractors and 800+ trailers out of 14 different terminals. Before Samsara, Action Resources relied on a legacy telematics system that was slow and manual. Coaching was more reactive than proactive, and back-office teams had to piece together methods to identify idle equipment, flag upcoming preventative maintenance, and respond to safety events in real time. With so much at stake, Action Resources recognized they needed a connected, data-driven partner to help manage the complexity of their large, multi-terminal hazmat fleet.
"When we're looking for a backhaul or trying to recover a load in a specific region, we can look at where all of our equipment is in real time, instead of having to track it down."
Christopher Kall
Vice President of Operations
The Solution
A unified platform amplifies safety culture, fleet utilization, and asset visibility
Action Resources replaced their legacy system with Samsara, deploying the technology across their full fleet alongside integrations with Fleetrock for maintenance and Fleetworthy (formerly Drivewyze PreClear) for Weigh Station Bypass. The transition gave back-office teams, safety leadership, and terminal managers a single, real-time view of driver safety, asset location, equipment utilization, and maintenance status across all 14 terminals.

Trailer Tracking
Reducing unseen trailer idling using real-time visibility
By connecting data from Samsara Vehicle Gateways (VGs) and Smart Trailers, Action Resources gained real-time visibility into which trailer was connected to which truck across all 14 terminals—information previously difficult to know without a phone call. As a result of this enhanced visibility, Action Resources reduced unseen idling.

Asset Tag
Recovering a stolen $20,000 asset and replacing spreadsheet tracking with real-time visibility
Samsara Asset Tags gave Action Resources' environmental division real-time visibility into equipment like side-by-side ATVs and pressure washers for the first time—replacing spreadsheets and guesswork with live location data. When a piece of equipment valued at nearly $20,000 was stolen from a remote work site, the team used Asset Tag real-time location data to lead law enforcement directly to the unit and recover it in record time. This live visibility led police directly to the stolen unit, resulting in a full recovery of the $20,000 asset. Under their legacy system, an incident like this could have resulted in a total loss.
