ChampionX targets millions in recovered assets and rental savings with Samsara Asset Tags

Fragmented systems and manual processes drove asset loss and fleet downtime

ChampionX provides oilfield chemical solutions, artificial lift systems, and digital monitoring technologies to the oil and gas industry across Canada and the United States. The company operates a highly specialized North American fleet of nearly 1,000 assets, ranging from light-duty trucks to multi-axle tractor-trailers. These vehicles support operations in remote, harsh environments where reliability and real-time visibility are critical.

Before Samsara, ChampionX dealt with disconnected systems and manual workflows. "We were relying on whiteboards, spreadsheets, and paper documents for day-to-day operations. We had separate platforms for cameras, ELDs, and maintenance, plus paper DVIRs," said Jamie Rutledge, Fleet Training and Compliance Manager. "Managing everything was complex, and none of the systems communicated with each other efficiently." In addition to siloed systems, preventative maintenance was reactive without engine-hour and fault-code visibility, while paper-based processes delayed issue resolution and contributed to avoidable downtime. Most costly was the inability to track smaller field equipment, such as chemical totes, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars due to steep rental fees for idle or missing assets.
