The Challenge
No visibility, no data, and no way to protect drivers or control costs
DWC Mechanical is a commercial HVAC and mechanical contractor based in Amherst, New York, and Tampa, Florida. DWC operates a fleet of roughly 70 vehicles, serving commercial accounts on new builds, construction projects, and HVAC installations.
As their team has grown, so has the complexity of keeping drivers safe, accountable, and productive across multiple large worksites. Before Samsara, DWC had only basic GPS tracking, no dash cams, and no way to investigate incidents beyond employee statements. Without video evidence, the company had limited ability to defend drivers in not-at-fault situations, and every open claim risked drawing down a costly insurance retainer. The company needed to gain visibility into their operations to improve safety and control costs more effectively.
"Samsara gives me the complete picture. In the past, I only heard about issues after they escalated, forcing me to be the 'bad guy' every time I showed up on site. Now, I can proactively praise good behavior, too."

The Solution
A unified platform for safety, visibility, and fleet control
DWC Mechanical implemented Samsara, starting with Fleet Telematics and rolling out AI Dash Cams across several vehicles. Wiepert quickly expanded the program, adding dual-facing AI Dash Cams to newer fleet vehicles, as well as building out a daily reporting workflow to proactively manage safety and driver behavior. As part of the implementation, Wiepert was able to quickly get up to speed on Samsara. "When I got into the Samsara platform, I learned a lot by just using it," he said. The Samsara Assistant has also become a go-to resource, enabling quick answers to configuration questions, report building, and platform navigation without waiting on outside help.

Avoiding an estimated $60,000 in insurance costs from a single exoneration
DWC Mechanical transformed its safety operations by deploying AI Dash Cams, immediately seeing a drop in risky behaviors while protecting their bottom line. In one recent incident, the company successfully avoided a massive estimated $60,000 insurance payout through a rapid exoneration. Furthermore, frequent customer complaint calls about driver behavior have dropped to almost nothing.

Fleet Telematics
Reducing fuel waste through real-time idling visibility and driver accountability
By using real-time GPS location data and Fleet Telematics, DWC has significantly improved the efficiency of their team across expansive job sites. The company actively monitors excessive engine idling, which is a persistent challenge for HVAC crews working in cold climates, and a direct drain on operating budgets. With real-time tracking for idling, DWC has achieved a significant reduction in fuel waste while giving management precise visibility into where every vehicle is located.
