The Challenge
Evolving safety in a growing, complex fleet
Enercare is a leading Canadian home services provider, delivering heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, and water services to over 1.1 million customers. With more than 1,000 vehicles operating across Canada, maintaining a safe and productive mobile workforce is critical to how Enercare operates. While the company had strong safety practices in place, the team saw an opportunity to enhance consistency and visibility across a growing national operation. As a self-insured organization, this also meant continuing to strengthen controls that directly impact cost and risk.
At the same time, the technology supporting their fleet was not keeping pace. Enercare managed their vehicles across two separate platforms, each producing distinct performance data with different scoring logic. The lack of a unified view made it difficult to consistently measure performance and communicate a single, clear safety standard across the organization.
"We had two different scores, and two different weightings. How do we talk about our safety score as a fleet when we have two different sets of data?" said Leslea Laughlin, Director of Fleet & Facilities. For the fleet team tasked with reconciling those systems, the operational reality was equally frustrating. "Merging the separate reports into one view was a headache," said Fleet Administrator Ana Paula Creador.
For the fleet team, this fragmentation created added operational complexity, requiring manual effort to reconcile data and build a cohesive picture of performance.
More broadly, Enercare recognized an opportunity to go further—moving beyond individual data points toward a more connected, real-time understanding of driver behaviour. With a clearer, more consolidated view, the team could strengthen their ability to identify patterns earlier, better understand root causes, and continue building on its strong safety culture.
"For us, it's not about monitoring—it's about coaching, educating and strengthening outcomes. Samsara builds on our strong safety culture, helping simplify our processes and enabling more focused improvements."

The Solution
Scaling a connected, driver-first safety program
After a comprehensive evaluation process, Enercare selected Samsara. The platform stood out for its unified safety score and real-time, in-cab voice coaching—capabilities that directly addressed their main priorities.
Enercare deployed 1,817 devices across 1,000 vehicles in just 181 days, aligning the rollout of Vehicle Gateways and Dual-Facing AI Dash Cams with a national fleet rebrand. The introduction of newly branded vehicles alongside new technology helped accelerate early improvements in driver behaviour.
As with many organizations, introducing inward- and outward-facing cameras required thoughtful engagement. Enercare approached this proactively, working closely with employees and managers to ensure transparency and clarity from the outset. Through a "myth-busting" campaign, the company reinforced a simple message: the technology is designed to support and protect drivers, not monitor them.
This transparent approach helped build trust and drive adoption across the fleet. Drivers quickly moved from initial awareness of the technology to actively embracing it as a tool that supports their performance and safety.
That cultural shift toward active engagement became a clear indicator of the program's success. "What we've seen is a real shift toward ownership. Drivers are engaging with their performance in a meaningful way, and that's what drives lasting improvement," said Laughlin.

Turning utilization data into a 26% reduction in vehicle dormancy
By reviewing three months of utilization data at one location alone, Enercare identified 18 underutilized vehicles that could be redeployed or resold, resulting in a 26% reduction in vehicle dormancy across that site's 70 vehicles. "When you look at it holistically, the impact is significant—from lease and fuel savings to reduced maintenance costs. It all adds up quickly," said Laughlin.
