The Challenge
Goettl needed to standardize fleet and safety operations
Goettl Home Services is a residential HVAC and plumbing company operating across six locations in Nevada, Texas, and Arizona, with a centralized services hub in Las Vegas. With approximately 520 vehicles in their fleet, Goettl's technicians complete three to five service calls daily in challenging conditions. They work long days in extreme heat, often navigating attics, trenches, and cramped spaces under homes.
Before Samsara, each Goettl branch operated independently. "Before we centralized, each branch was using their own version of fleet management—for example, Texas was using GeoTab—so nothing talked to each other," said Samantha Garcia, Safety Support Specialist. The company also used consumer-grade asset trackers for high-value equipment, which presented reliability challenges due to battery life and connectivity issues. On the safety side, Goettl relied on manual processes, including paper-based safety inspections and spreadsheets to track performance. With a rising number of accidents and a $350,000 auto deductible, they needed better safety oversight and centralized fleet management.

Given that technicians already manage several different applications during their demanding workdays, Goettl's change management approach prioritized protecting driver time and mental bandwidth while gradually introducing new capabilities that reduce administrative burden rather than add complexity.

In fact, driver adoption is so strong that many technicians won't drive vehicles without Samsara dash cams.

Goettl provides loaner AC units as a customer courtesy while primary HVAC systems are being repaired, but previously had no visibility into equipment locations when it was time to remove the loaned units. They deployed Samsara's Asset Tag to track hundreds of AC units, valued at $300 each, and other high-value equipment, such as $5,000 ProPress machines. The implementation eliminated guesswork in equipment management, improved unit recovery rates, and provided complete inventory visibility across all six locations.

Goettl implemented Samsara's Connected Workflows to replace paper-based safety documentation and reduce app fatigue for technicians who were already managing several different platforms daily. The company created customized digital forms, including DVIRs and ladder inspection workflows, all integrated into the existing Samsara platform. Management prioritized technician experience, successfully reducing administrative burden on technicians while improving safety documentation accuracy and compliance.
