Integrating systems to better support drivers and customers

Founded 50 years ago, MAVIN is a family-run wood products company based in Dundee, Ohio. The company operates four divisions—MAVIN Timber, MAVIN Pallet, MAVIN Furniture, and MAVIN Logistics—that create and distribute sustainable, high-quality products across the United States.

A core part of MAVIN's culture is to blend innovation with integrity to ensure every product meets the demands of their customers. To do that, their team knew they needed to upgrade their technology to support their operations. "We were using several systems that weren't well connected, and we knew we could deliver better service if everything was integrated in one place," said Brandon Schlabach, Logistics Manager.

Before selecting Samsara, MAVIN considered solutions from several providers. Samsara's ease of use and strong recommendations from drivers were key reasons why the company chose Samsara over Motive. "The fact that our drivers had positive experiences with Samsara previously carried a lot of weight," said Schlabach. "It created driver buy-in from the very beginning."

MAVIN also valued how easy it was to work the Samsara team before making a decision. "The trial period was important to us, since we could get our hands on the product and see how it worked," said Schlabach. "Working with the Samsara team was smooth, simple, and low-pressure."

Once MAVIN selected Samsara, the deployment process took less than a week. "The Samsara hardware arrived in a day or two, and it took an additional day to add the devices to our trucks," said Schlabach. "We received access to the Samsara system before the hardware even shipped, which means I could go in before it even arrived to start configuring our account. It was very easy to do."

In two recent incidents where MAVIN vehicles were hit at truck stops while parked overnight, the company was able to find the responsible parties and recoup the cost of the incidents, saving MAVIN $15,000 in insurance payments.

With granular data on idling, Samsara has helped MAVIN lower fleet idling below 20%, saving on fuel and lowering emissions, and the company plans to reduce idling even further. In addition, MAVIN has reduced HOS issues significantly, helping to boost compliance.
