Seeking real-time visibility to optimize operations and ensure safety
MOOvers Chicago provides a range of moving services, including local and out-of-state relocations, for residential and commercial customers in the City of Chicago. A family-owned business, MOOvers Chicago was named one of "America's Best Moving Companies" for 2026 by USA Today.
Company president Daniel Iordan started MOOvers Chicago as a one-van operation in 2014. Since then, the company has expanded to a fleet of 29 vehicles and employs up to 100 movers, depending on the season, as well as 15 office employees. As the company has grown, they needed real-time visibility into the field so they could optimize the moving process and keep customers satisfied.

The Solution
Real-time data and AI-powered tools for more effective fleet management
Before selecting a new solution, MOOvers Chicago ran a one-month side-by-side trial to compare Samsara and Azuga. Iordan chose Samsara because it offered the features MOOvers Chicago needed to run their fleet most effectively. "Samsara really understood our requirements," Iordan said. "The platform provides exactly what an organization like ours in the relocation industry needs: real-time data to manage fleets and provide tailored coaching to improve driver safety."
Initially, MOOvers Chicago deployed Samsara's dual-facing AI Dash Cams and Vehicle Gateways. Iordan was able to install the cameras himself in only a few days using Samsara's instructional videos. The company recently added Samsara's AI Multicam, which connects Dash Cams, side cameras, and cameras inside the truck for 360-degree views of their trucks. "Samsara's AI rapidly detects potential hazards in busy Chicago traffic, such as cyclists and pedestrians," said Iordan. "It gives our drivers real-time, 360-degree awareness of their surroundings, which is a huge plus for preventing accidents."

Significant improvements in safety, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction
After deploying Samsara, MOOvers Chicago has experienced significant benefits across their operations, most notably in improved safety. With Samsara cameras and video, the company has experienced only two minor vehicle accidents over the past five years. The company has also been able to reduce a number of risky driver behaviors, including an 81% drop in speeding, a 28% reduction in harsh braking, and a 10% decrease in distracted driving.
Moreover, with visibility into driver behavior and tools to provide effective coaching, Samsara has helped the company establish a strong culture of safety. "When we first started, I was surprised by some of the risky behaviors I was seeing from employees who I thought were my best drivers," Iordan said. "Now, everyone understands our safety standards and knows how they can meet them."
In addition to safety benefits, Samsara has made it easier for MOOvers Chicago to comply with ELD requirements, and AI Multicam has helped the company improve their job estimates. "We can review camera footage of the loading and unloading processes, which gives us valuable operational data," said Iordan. "This helps us better estimate how long future jobs will take, which allows us to give customers more transparent pricing."
Samsara also contributes to customer satisfaction by providing proof that items were properly handled during the moving process. "Relocation can be stressful, and sometimes customers will mistakenly claim that things are missing," Iordan said. "With Samsara, we can show them irrefutable video evidence that their items was moved off a truck and into their residence or business."
Outside of their day-to-day operations, MOOvers Chicago found a unique way to use Samsara data to educate prospects and customers about the local market. "We used our fleet's driving data to create a Chicago Moving Trends Intelligence Report on migration within the city," said Iordan. "Seeing these insights not only helps us know where our teams are concentrated, but it can also help customers plan future moves."
