NovaXpress improves routing and on-time delivery with Samsara Commercial Navigation

Disconnected tools and manual processes strained a rapidly expanding mixed fleet

Based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, NovaXpress is a Canadian transportation and last-mile delivery organization. They provide parcel pickup, urban delivery, white-glove rural delivery, and long-haul freight across the Maritimes, serving local customers directly and subcontracting for top brands like Canada Post, Amazon, and Purolator. The team operates roughly 250 assets—from cargo vans to 18-wheelers—and is actively expanding from its base in Atlantic Canada into Quebec, Ontario, and beyond. With a mixed fleet, a wide service area, and brand-name shippers expecting tight delivery windows, NovaXpress needed technology that could keep pace with their increasingly complex business needs as they continued to grow.

Before partnering with Samsara, NovaXpress was running its fleet on a patchwork of disconnected tools, with drivers using a mix of navigation technologies, none of which accurately shared information with one another. Drivers toggled between navigation and HOS apps in the cab, unintentionally generating frequent distracted-driving alerts and adding stress to long work days, while routes for new contracts were still built by hand from paper maps. As NovaXpress took on more brand-name shipper contracts and expanded across the Maritimes into Quebec and Ontario, those technology gaps were showing up in repair bills, citations, dispatcher reroute calls, and missed delivery windows.
