The Challenge

Rising insurance costs and limited visibility into driver behavior created risk

Service Minds is a residential home services company operating across Florida and Alabama. The company manages a 580-vehicle fleet that logs approximately 28,000 miles each workday. Before partnering with Samsara, the company had little visibility into driver behavior and an increasing number of accidents, costing more than $2.2 million annually in claims. Insurance premiums surged over 50% year-over-year, adding more than $500,000 in costs and raising concerns about long-term insurability. Without fleet data, Service Minds couldn't identify root causes or prevent recurring accidents.

The Solution

A data-driven safety program delivers immediate results and lasting behavioral change

After evaluating five providers and running two parallel pilot programs, Service Minds selected Samsara. The decision was driven by strong industry reference and how quickly the platform delivered actionable insights. "What really made Samsara stand out during the pilot was the data—and how it was presented in the dashboard—and the AI," said Gordon Mowen, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer. "Within a week of turning the devices on, we identified the root causes of our accidents. We had spent the last two years trying to get there." Confident in the pilot program results, Service Minds completed a full-fleet rollout of Vehicle Gateways and AI Dash Cams in just six weeks.

To drive strong adoption, the company paired rapid deployment with thoughtful change management. Leaders introduced the cameras as an "attentive passenger" designed to protect drivers from false claims. They reinforced the message through branch-level trainings and an educational grace period focused on coaching rather than discipline. Early exoneration stories further accelerated buy-in, while monthly town halls celebrating defensive driving clips and perfect Safety Scores gamified improvement and strengthened engagement across the fleet.

Reducing accidents by 83% and saving $1.6M with AI Dash Cams

Service Minds deployed Samsara AI Dash Cams to overhaul driver safety and take control of rising insurance costs. By combining real-time in-cab alerts, automated daily speed reports, and structured coaching workflows with Samsara, they reduced at-fault accidents by 83% and achieved their first-ever zero-accident month. The company cut excessive speeding by 88%, reduced distracted driving by 20%, and generated over $1.6 million in projected annualized cost savings. With clear data and video evidence, they not only improved their safety culture, but also restored insurer confidence and market competitiveness.

Protecting high-value equipment and reclaiming lost time in the field

Following the theft of a scope pipe worth $20,000, Service Minds deployed Samsara Asset Tags to protect their high-value equipment and improve operational efficiency. Now, Asset Tags are being used with the company's plumbing division to track specialized tools, including scope pipes, that frequently move between branches. The solution also helps managers instantly locate shared equipment, eliminating time-consuming phone calls and long tool searches that lead to downtime. "After exceeding the cost savings we projected with Samsara, it was a no-brainer for us to expand the partnership with the Asset Tags," said Bryan Meany, CFO.
