The Challenge
Limited visibility slowed response times and increased operational risk
Superior Plus Corp. is a leading North American distributor of propane, compressed natural gas, and renewable energy, serving over 750,000 customers across more than 650 locations in Canada and the United States. In Canada, Superior has spent over 70 years delivering propane to homes and businesses nationwide, with work that extends beyond delivery to include tank and cylinder rentals, equipment installation and repair, and preventative maintenance programs, making them a full-service energy partner from coast to coast.
The scale of this operation is significant—and so are the stakes. Transporting a highly regulated fuel requires a high standard of care across diverse operating environments, from dense urban centres to remote communities, and in conditions where temperatures can drop below -30°C. In provinces like British Columbia, these challenges become even more pronounced. Drivers navigate mountain highways, congested city streets, and remote coastal and island communities, often in rapidly changing weather conditions.
"Our teams navigate some of the most challenging terrain in North America," said Mike Bissell, Area Operations Manager for Southern British Columbia. "Fuel keeps homes warm, businesses operating, and critical services running. Whether we're crossing mountain highways or delivering by barge in tough conditions, showing up safely and on time isn't optional. It's a responsibility we take very seriously."
Prior to implementing Samsara, Superior relied on multiple systems that created data inconsistencies and limited visibility into their operations. As a result, teams often took a more reactive approach when responding to changing conditions. Whether facing a winter storm, a power outage, or an unexpected road closure, managers did not have a consistent, real-time view of what was happening across the fleet. This made it difficult to respond quickly to critical operational risks.
"Before consolidating, our biggest blind spots were fragmented systems and data inconsistencies. Moving to Samsara gave us reliable, consistent visibility we can trust."

The Solution
Moving from fragmented systems to a unified platform
To address these challenges, Superior turned to Samsara, deploying Vehicle Gateways and Dual-Facing AI Dash Cams across hundreds of vehicles and introducing the Samsara Driver App to drivers and field teams throughout their Canadian network.
This transition gave their teams a consistent, real-time view across the full fleet for the first time. More than a technology upgrade, Samsara supported a shift in how Superior approaches safety—from reactive monitoring to proactive, in-the-moment support and coaching.
"Before, we had limited visibility into real-time driver behaviour. Our approach was more reactive after incidents occurred," said Preet Atwal, Director of Fleet and Transportation Safety. "With Samsara, we now have real-time insights across the fleet, and that allows us to take a proactive approach to safety."
